The cross with technology … Time and again computers in private use cause problems. We have listed the 7 most common computer problems and tell you how to help yourself in computer repair process.
1. My computer does not make a sound:
Does your computer have electricity at all? First of all, you should check if your PC is plugged in properly and if the outlet is supplying power. If it does not happen, the power supply could be defective. Have the electronics market or the PC dealer check to see if it is up to you.
2. Windows hangs on startup:
As a rule, a menu with options such as “Repair Computer”, “Safe Mode” or “Last Known Good Configuration” will then appear on the next startup attempt. Often these texts are in English, so for example “Safe Mode” instead of “Safe Mode”. First, try Repairing Computers or Last Known Good Configuration. Often your computer then settles back so that it runs again. If you do not receive this menu, press F8 at startup.
3. Windows only starts in “Safe Mode”:
Only the most necessary functions of your PC are loaded. If the computer starts up again, enter “Msconfig” in the search menu of the Windows Start menu. Then you will see a program with which you can change Windows settings, for example, the software that is automatically loaded at startup. Deactivate as many entries as possible. And try other options in Msconfig.
4. New hardware is causing problems:
Unplug the new device (e.g. printer or scanner) and delete the driver in the Device Manager (enter “Devices” in the search window) – i.e. the software that ensures that the PC and other hardware communicate. Then reload the driver – but from the website of the manufacturer and not from the enclosed CD, which is sometimes outdated.
5. My computer is frozen:
If the PC stops responding, press and hold the power button for five seconds. Most of the time the computer will shut down and you can restart.
6. My PC is getting slower:
Then perhaps the registry is clogged with garbage. A tool like the free Wise Registry Cleaner can help here. Experts assume a speed increase of up to 30 percent. Even top: the clearing program CCleaner can help you with this.
7. My hard disk is almost full:
10% of the disk space should always be left, so that the PC can “breathe freely”. Delete unnecessary data or archive space on DVD or external hard disk. The data that takes up the most space can be found with a free program like Disk Space Fan.
8. My computer is getting louder:
Most then blows the fan in continuous operation. Maybe your pc does not get enough fresh air. Is he standing on a blanket blocking the air vents? Or the slits are clogged – for example, by cigarette smoke, which is every PC with its moist and sticky particles of archenemy.
